James Michael Wilkinson

James Michael was born in December 1837 in St. Mary's Co., MD.¹ James Michael's father was Thomas Wilkinson and his mother was Caroline Cissell. His paternal grandparents were John Wilkinson and Ann "Nancy" Thompson. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John V, William H, David E., Daniel A., Mark Thomas, Susanna E., Ann Mary and Ellen. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Thomas Roudolphs, John, Mary and Annie Estelle. He died at the age of 68 on May 4th, 1906 in Washington D.C.. He was buried on November 17th, 1924 in reinterred Mt.Olivet section 52.²³

General Notes
- The 1860 census shows a Michael Wilkinson and Martha and an Ignatius Heard. Fresco's Marriages and Deaths page 312 has James M. Wilkinson married Martha Heard witness Ign. Heard. This links James M. Wilkinson to his son Thomas Daniel. It was also a trait of Wilkinson's to go by their 2nd name, until abt 1900. Spurgeon Terry Jr. notes that He was a constable in 1869. First marriage to women who was 1/2 American Indian (Martha "Patty" Heard. The term Captain comes from Kristine Z. Madsen" Grama Mae Zoellner always refered to him as "Cap'm Mike." Also Kris noted: Grandaughter Helen Heflin said he was a boat cap't later in life."

  9/10/1866: Trustee had trouble securing service of some of the parties. Two
  of heirs now reside in Ky. during late Rebellion and one enlisted in
  Confederate service. Signed G. I. Spalding, Sol. for Complainants.
