This indenture made the 4th day of March in the year of our Lord 1856be tween Lafayette M. Riggs of the 1st part and John R. McCotter of thesec ond part all of the County of Craven and the State of NorthCarolina, wi tnesseth that the said Lafayette M. Riggs for and inconsideration of th e sum Ten Dollars has bargained and by these presents doth grant bargai n, sell and deliver to the said John R.McCotter his heirs and assigns f orever a certain piece or parcel of land (to wit) lying and being on th e north side of Bay River and on the hearth of Smith Creek Run, beginni ng at the North East corner of improvements sold by David Rose to Richa rd Spencer at a Holly thence Noreth to West and from that line far enou gh South 45 West to Thomas Lincoln's line, then South 45 East thence No rth 45 East to the beginning including thirty-three and 2/3 acres with a ll and every the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appert aining, and I do hereby covenant to any with the said John R. McCotter t hat I have before the Execution of this deed, forthright, absolute, and l awful authority to sell the said land and premises and agree hereby to w arrant andforever defend the right and title of the same to him, the sa id John R. McCotter, his heirs and assigns forever, in witness whereof I h ave here unto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
