Ann E. was born in 1836 in St. Mary's Co., MD.¹ Ann E.'s father was Philip Greenwell and her mother was Mary Sydney Greenwell. Her maternal grandparents were Athanasius Greenwell and Catherine Jones. She had a brother and two sisters, named Fredrick J., Mary E. and Ellen Rebecca. She was the second oldest of the four children. She had two half-sisters named Mary Heneritta and Joyce Catherine.
