Harold Edwin was born in June 1915 in Middletown, PA.1   Harold Edwin's father was John Edwin Diffenderfer and his mother was Alina V Meinsler.  His paternal grandparents were John C Diffenderfer and Mary Jane Diffenderfer?; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin F Meinsler and Ida E Meinsler?. He had five brothers and four sisters, named James L., Billy L, Charles Alden, Benjamin Franklin, Clarence Coven, Dorothy J, Lois, Beatrice M and Mary J..  He was the oldest of the ten children.
