Laban was born on August 21st, 1794 in Anson, North Carolina, United States.  Laban's father was Archibald Caraway and his mother was Elizabeth Taylor. He had six brothers and five sisters, named William T, Edwin S, Taylor, Ellis, Solomon, John, Sarah H, Elizabeth, Lucretia R, Louisa and Thetis T.  He was the oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 22 on September 19th, 1816 in Mississippi, United States.
