Howard Vernon Sr was born on March 8th, 1873 in VA, Frederick, Maryland, United States.  Howard Vernon Sr's father was James Hiram Canter and his mother was Sarah Ann L. Wise. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Austin Wise, Millard S Sr, James Harvey, Llewella J and Bertha Bently.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children. He had thirteen half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named Lyman, Charles, Albert B, Frank, Daniel S, William, Baby Boy, Vince, George Everett, Samuel D, James M, Josephus, Eugene, Isabel, Emma, Elizabeth Lizzie, Baby Girl, Lucy, Elizabeth, Sabray C and Letheatt.
