William Ignatius was born about 1900 in Maryland, USA.1   William Ignatius' father was William Wallace Bowles and his mother was Ellen Geneveive Hayden.  His paternal grandfather was Joseph F. Bowles; his maternal grandparents were Robert Edwin Hayden and Ann Caroline Heard. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Francis Oswald, Oswald F, Douglas T, Hellen Genevieve, Anne Sophia, Dorothy E., Minnie C and Margaret E.  He was the oldest of the nine children.
