Peder was born on February 6th, 1835 in Egge i Breim.  Peder's father was Rasmus Johannesson and his mother was Brite Antonsdotter.  His paternal grandparents were Johannes Olson and Anne Rasmusdotter; his maternal grandparents were Anton Larson and Ragnille Borresdotter. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Johannes, Anton, Anna, Ragnille and Synneve.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.
