- Merriola Nunnelly said Alice was born in Tennessee and came to LA in covered wagon with her first husband John Craig to Leesville. He opened a saloon there and later moved on to Lake Charles where he operated another saloon. They lived in Welch and he was buried there. Merriola also relates that Alice was born in Tennessee on 9-12-1889. However, the gravestone here in Leesville indicates 27
  Nov 1871, so we're not sure where her date came from. Additional notes from Merriola say Alice was born 27 Nov 1871 in Paris, Lamar, Texas. She died on 29 Mar 1925 in Leesville, La. She was a housewife and mother, also was a Baptist. Her father's name was William B. Craig, and her mother's name was Alice E. Alsobrooke.
