Hans Adam Werfel

  • "Hans Adam Werfel was about 8 years old when his father died. His mother remarried to George Seger and moved to Rapho, Lancaster Co., PA. Hans married Sarah abt. 1767 in PA. Tax records list Adam Werfel in Rapho in 1780. His children may have been born there. There is no Adam Warfel of any spelling in the 1790 PA Census. Adam (Sr.) bought land in Huntingdon Co., PA on April 11, 1814 per Deed Book Y, Vol. 1, Ag. 273, 274, & 275. Some of his heirs are listed as releasing their rights to the land to their brother Henry."
    
    Wife Sarah is given children Sarah E., Catherine, b. 1769, Henry b. 1773 BUT supposedly Hans married 2d 'abt. 1768', with children Mary, John, Adam b. 1777, etc. I'll enter the info as best I can for now, but more research needs to be done. I'm putting the marriage dates as "bef. 1769" for Hans 1st wife Sarah, and "aft 1769" for his 2d wife, Unk. Caldwell.
    b. The 1790 Census: Rapho Twp., Lancaster Co. PA - I have checked every page at ancestry.com's Images Online for both Rapho and Rapho2. There is no one on there by any of the following names, any sp. var.: Warfel; Weston; Seger. Tax records may list him as owning property and paying taxes on it in 1780, but he is not living there in 1790, as the info above correctly states.
