Geoffrey III the Bearded D'anjou

Geoffrey III the Bearded was born in 1039 in of Courtenay, Loiret, France.¹ Geoffrey III the Bearded's father was Geoffroy II Ferreol Count Of GASTINOIS. He had a brother named Fulk IV (The Rude). He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 30 in 1069.¹

General Notes
- The son of Ermenegarde, daughter of Fulk III of Anjou, and Geoffrey, Count of Gâtinais, Geoffrey was born in 1060. He suceeded his uncle, Geoffrey II Martel and was the first of the House of Plantagenet. Disputes with the church resulted in his deposition and imprisonment, but he was freed on the orders of Pope Urban II.
  
  Geoffrey III of Anjou, called le Barbu ("the Bearded"), count of Anjou was the eldest son of Ermengarde of Anjou, the daughter of Fulk III of Anjou, and of the count of Gâtinais. He succeeded his uncle Geoffrey II in 1060, but his power was limited by attacks from his own brother Fulk IV. A serious confrontation with the Church led to his condemnation by a council, then his deposition and imprisonment in 1068. He was freed by the intervention of Pope Urban II in 1096, and died soon after.
