  • John Adam Counts was known as Adam Counts up through the 1840 Census in Missouri. The People in Missouri believe that he was a son of Nicholas Counts (died in 1797 in Grainger County, Tn.) and Mary Ottey. I have seen some old files of researchers that state that this Nicholas Counts was married to (1) Elizabeth Sharp, (2) Mary Ottey and (3) Susannah ...........
    
    His 1797 will does name her as his wife but does not give a maiden name. He states that he had four sons, butr only named his son, Nicklis, who was my ancestor.
    
    By the process of elimionation, we have concluded that his sons were (1) Nicholas Counts, (2) John Counts, (3) Adam Counts and (4) Henry Counts (who married Mary Stubblefield).
    
    I found the same marriage date as you have in the old files of Reginald Allison Smith, but could never document same in any official record in N. C..
    
    We have documented the names of 11 of his twelve children and have compiled a book on them. Some have speculated that the Mary who marri;ed John Isaac McDaniel may have been the twellfth child who was a daughter.
