James was born in 1754 in Rainford, Lancashire, , England.  James' father was James Birchall and his mother was Elizabeth Ainsworth.  His paternal grandfather was James Birchall and his paternal grandmother is Sarah Turton.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 85 on July 16th, 1839 in , Lancashire, , England.1
