Jan was born in 1851 in Aruba.  Jan's father is Jan Anthony Tromp and his mother was Anna Clara Thiel. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Casper, Marcus, Juan, José, Anna, María, María de la Paz, Martha, Wilhelmina, Catharina and Apolonia.  He died at the age of 12 in 1863 in Aruba.
