Nicolaas was born in 1861 in Aruba.  Nicolaas' father was Jan Hendrik Godfried Eman and his mother was Anna Catharina  Van der Biest. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Benoit, Cornes, Harmen, Richard, Regina, Saartje and Sarah.  He died at the age of 40 in 1901 in Aruba.
