Johannes Hendrik was born in 1841 in Graaff Reinet.  Johannes Hendrik's father was Cornelius van Niekerk and his mother was Wilhelmina (van Niekerk).  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 84 on September 1st, 1925 in Jacobsdal.

‌Johannes Hendrik and Martha Petronella were married.  They had six sons and four daughters, named Cornelis Wardowe, Barend Richard, Johannus Hendrik, Johannes, Pual Kruger, Hendrik Stephanus Jacobus, Juliana Louisa, Wilhelmina, Martha Petronella and Hendrina.
