Gertrude Elizabeth Jacoba was born on February 17th, 1853 in Paarl.  Gertrude Elizabeth Jacoba's father was Johannes Christiaan van Blerk and her mother was Hendrina Aletta Henrietta Hiebner.  Her paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus van Blerk and Geertruida Elizabeth Louw (van Blerk); her maternal grandparents were Albertus Philippus Hiebner and Hester Magdalena du Plessis. She had a brother and three sisters, named Johannes Petrus Christiaan, Alleta Hendrina Herietta, Cathrina Elizabeth and Sara Alberta.  Alleta Hendrina Herietta and Gertrude Elizabeth Jacoba were twins.  She died at the age of 80 on March 1st, 1933 in Colesberg.
