Mahto's father was Anandideen (lala) Awasthi and her mother is Chandrakali. Her paternal grandparents are Gopeshwar Awasthi and Gopiya Bai. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Gullu, Ramkumar, Kesha, Tara, Kamala and Prabha.
