John's father is Edward KEMP and his mother is Maria EPPS.  His paternal grandfather was Robert Webb KEMP and his paternal grandmother is Sarah ALLCHIN. He has four brothers and five sisters, named George, Robert Edward, Edward, William George, Emma, Emily Anne, Lilly Jane, Agnes Maria and Alice.
