John was born in 1818 in Kenninghall, Norfolk.  John's father was William JESSUP and his mother was Elizabeth DAYTON.  His paternal grandparents were William JESSUP and Elizabeth BETTS. He had two sisters named Lydia and Rhoda.  He was the youngest of the three children.
