    Reuben was born in Exford, Somerset in 1849 (source - Birth Register Q4 1849) and was baptised on 5th January 1850 (source - Exford Parish Register of Baptisms 1845 - 1860, see link below).

    In 1851, he was living with his parents Robert and Jane  at Edgecot, Exford (source - 1851 Census).
    
    Reuben still lived in Exford with his parents in 1861. By this time, Robert is listed in the 1861 Census as a wheelwright.
    
    By 1871, Reuben's father had died (in 1868), and the 1871 Census had him living in Exford with his mother. Jane is listed as a nurse and Reuben had become a carpenter. In 1871, Reuben married Maria Thorne in Hawkridge (source - Hawkridge Parish Register of Marriages 1837 - 1871, see link below, and Marriage Register Q2 1871).

    In the 1881 Census, Reuben is listed as a wheelwright and employed "one man". By this time, he had a family of his own and they lived in Knackershole No 1, Brushford. He and Maria had 4 sons, Robert (my Great Grandfather), Walter, Ernest, and Alfred, and a daughter Sarah. His brother Aaron is also listed as being at the address at the time the census was taken.
    
    By 1891, Reuben and Maria had three more children, Ethel, Lucy and Richard. They still lived at Knackershole, Brushford. Robert is now listed as a wheelright and carpenter and Sarah as a dressmakers apprentice.
