Daniel was born in 1780.  Daniel's father was John McDonald and his mother was Flora Johnson.  His paternal grandparents were Hector McDonald and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Murdock, James and Christina.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 82 in 1862.
