John was born in 1774.  John's father was John Christy and his mother was Sarah Dunbar.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Christy and Mary Margaret Wilson; his maternal grandparents were William Dunbar and Catherine.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 81 in 1855.
