Zilpha was born on June 24th, 1853 in Harmony, Queens County, Nova Scotia.  Zilpha's father was Austin Welton Spinney and her mother was Elizabeth Jane Morse.  Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Beach Spinney and Ann G. Crocker; her maternal grandfather is Jonathan Morse and her maternal grandmother was Elizabeth (Eliza) Spinney. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Jacob, Jonathan, Austin, Caleb, Joshua, Elizabeth, Ann, Charlotte, Minnie, Eunice and Ida.  She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 72 on November 6th, 1925.
