    Eliot Robert E. Spinney, 73, of Dolt Hill Road, died September 28, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire.
    He was born here, a son of Sidney and Alma Leavitt Spinney, and graduated from Eliot High School.
    Mr. Spinney worked for Dow Oil Co. and then as a fire captain for the Portmouth Naval Shipyard Fire Department. He retired in 1974 but worked as a backhoe operator for many years.
    He was affiliated with Naval Masonic Lodge 174 of Kittery and was a volunteer firefighter with the Eliot Volunteer Fire Department.
    His interest included fishing and hunting.
    A son, Paul, died in 1998.
    Surviving are his wife of over 54 years, Dorothy Smith Spinney, two daughters, Mrs James (Joyce) Dove of Clermont, Fla, and Mrs Frank (Judith) Jewett of Oxford, a son, Dennis of Eliot; a sister, Louise Stukas of Kennebunk; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
