    Portsmouth - Mildred L. "Ma" (Spinney) Pizz, 78, of 1600 Islington St., died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by all her loving family.
    She was born in Portsmouth on April 4, 1924, a daughter of Frank W. and A. Viola (Hersey) Spinney. She was a member of the North Congregational Church of Portsmouth and had belonged to the Blue Birds, Campfire Girls and Rogers Mission of the church. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1942, and had worked at Woolworth's during high school. In 1946 she married Stanley Pizz; they were married for 40 years before his death in 1986.
    She was a loving, caring and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed knitting sweaters and mittens for the church fair and always made sure her grandchildren had homemade sweaters and blankets. She also enjoyed reading and telling stories. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
    Survivors include her three sons, Richard Pizz and his wife, Linda, of Epping, Frank Pizz and his companion Patty of Portsmouth, and Kevin Pizz and his companion Samantha of Portsmouth; two daughters, Diane Pizz of Massachusetts and Janice Brown and her husband, Russ, of Portsmouth; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice Brightman and her husband, Russ, of Greenland and Florida; a brother, Francis Spinney and his wife, Dawn, of Portsmouth; several nieces and nephews; and her devoted friend for 60 years, Helen Foley of Sanford, Maine.
    She was predeceased by a son, Paul Stephen Pizz, who died in 1979; and twin infant daughters, Janet and Janice.
