Stephen Bean Dow

Stephen was born about 1818 in Plymouth, Grafton County, New Hampshire. Stephen's father was Jonathan Dow and his mother was Harriet Sanborn. His paternal grandparents were Levi Dow and Abigail Godfrey. He had a brother named David. He was the older of the two children. He died due to Inflammation of the tongue on March 29th, 1871 in New Hampton, Belknap County, New Hampshire.

General Notes
- Stephen made Salem, Massachusetts his home port. He followed the sea for thirty-eight years, nine as a mate and thirteen as a master. His normal weight was about 240 lbs. Stephen was known to hoist, unaided, an anchor weighing 1,000 lbs. Stephen suffered for thirty-six hours with inflammation of the tongue before dying.
