Nathan was born on January 8th, 1808.  Nathan's father was Dr Jabez Dow and his mother was Hannah Waitt.  His paternal grandparents were Nathan Dow and Elizabeth Batchelder; his maternal grandparents are Waitt and <Unknown>. He had three brothers named Samuel, Henry and Thaddeus.  He was the third oldest of the four children.
