Pomroy was born about 1867 in Leon, Decatur, Iowa, United States of America.¹ Pomroy's father was Lee Harris Gammon and his mother was Ema Webster. His paternal grandparents were Dozier Brawner Gammon and Lavina Letitia Turbeville. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John Wesley, E W, James W, Luther B, Lee, Lovire, Harriet, Marilda Tillie, Ella and Sarah Livina. He is the youngest of the eleven children.
