Mechtild was born in 1095 in Of, , Limburg, Netherlands. Mechtild's father was Henri I Lorraine and her mother was Adelheid von Bothenstein. Her paternal grandparents were Walram Count Limburg and Jutta Image De Luxemburg; her maternal grandparents were Botho Von Botenstein and Judith Von Schweinfurt. She had a brother and two sisters, named Duke, Agnes De Limburg and Mathilde. She was the third oldest of the four children. She died at the age of 33 in 1128.
