Esther was born on December 26th, 1897 in Loughor. Esther's father was Elizabeth Maria Thomas and her mother was David Morgan Gower. Her paternal grandparents were Daniel Thomas and Maria Phillips. She had a brother and two sisters, named David, Gwendoline and Annie. She was the oldest of the four children.-
