  • John had a Pub,shop and a butcher shop in partnership with his brother in law  Ted Bates in the port then known as Kimbley . It later became known as Kuramba. Ted was married to Johns sister Bridget  Ted and Bridget had two children ,Ruby and another daughter.Ted sold his shares to John and went and opened up a shop in Normanton. John eventually went broke because Karumba was loosing business to Normanton

    1999  I met her nephew  ,Colin Brown, in Normanton in Sep 99 where he runs a vidio shop.
    John moved to Normanton where he became the chairman on the Carpenteria  Shire Council .His picture was on the wall in the Normanton shire office. He was the chairman in Normanton from 1920 to 1927 He died at home of a heart attack. He was burried in the Roman Catholic section in the Normanton cemertry Lot no 24 (unmarked  no tombstone
    I got this infomation from the Normanton Shire Council Office
    Records in Croydon show that he owned the GoldenGates Hotelstralian Hotle in 1896 he also had a boarding house  "Trueblue"1894 -95 and he was the postmaster.
