Gussie was born on June 23rd, 1884 in Montgomery, AL. Gussie's father was William Darden and her mother was Martha (Mattie) Elizabeth Diamond. Her maternal grandparents were William Jackson Diamond and Elizabeth L Mitchell. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Willie, Ray, William, Walter, Onia and Beulah. She was the second oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 68 on July 17th, 1952.
