Yaakov, known as Jockel, was born in 1841.  Jockel's father was Naftali Hirsch Berlinger and his mother was Kelche.  His paternal grandparents were Jakob Berlinger and ? ?; his maternal grandparents were Mosche Trier and ?. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Elieser, Mosche, Aron, Salomon, Perle, Henki, Speile, Gitel, Sara, Gela and Jochebed.  He was the nineth oldest of the twelve children.
