John was born about 1215 in Of, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England.  John's father was William COKAYNE and his mother is Alice de DALBURY.  His paternal grandfather was William COKAYNE and his paternal grandmother is Sarah FITZALDECINDER; his maternal grandfather is Hugh DALBURY OR ALBINY. He had a brother named Roger.  He was the older of the two children.  He died about 1305.
