Martinus was born in 1716 in Lubbeek.  Martinus' father was Joannes Ickx and his mother was Catharina Mertens.  His maternal grandparents were Henricus Ickx and Joanna Roscams. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Petrus, Joannes Franciscus, Catharina and Maria Elisabeth.  He was the oldest of the five children.
