Jaan was born in 1848.  Jaan's father was Mihkel Parts and his mother was Mai Parts (Brikker).  His paternal grandparents were Jaan Parts and Liis Parts (Kõrge); his maternal grandparents were Peeter Brikker and Epp Brikker. He had a brother and two sisters, named Toots, Mari and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 6 in 1854.
