Margareta's father was Mårten Schilling and her mother was Kristina Tawast (Schilling).  Her paternal grandparents were Johan (Hans) Persson and Brita Mårtensdotter Schilling; her maternal grandparents were Henrik Mattson Tawast and N.N. (Tawast). She had two brothers and a sister, named Gustaf, Gabriel and Helena.
