Elek was born on July 2nd, 1806 in Mezőtúr.¹

Elek's father was Ferenc Körtvélyesi and his mother was Katalin Kiss.  His paternal grandparents were Ferenc Körtvélyesi and Barbara Horváth. He had five brothers and a sister, named István, János, István, Ágoston, Gergely and Márta.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 71 on September 11th, 1877 in Mezőtúr 666.²
