Lajos' father was Gergely Asbóth and his mother was Mária Hegedűs.  His paternal grandparents were István Asbóth and Erzsébet Horváth. He had a brother and a sister, named István and Terézia.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had seven half-brothers named Gergely, István, József, Bálint, Imre, Erzsébet and Gyula.
