Suwardani was born on December 6th, 1959.  Suwardani's father is Surjadi Pringgohardjo and her mother is Tatiek Suwarti.  Her paternal grandparents were R Mustotpo Pringgohardjo and Sujati. She has four brothers and two sisters, named Drs Pradoto Imam Santoso, Drs Kiswadi Iman Santoso, Ir Kun Hidayat, Suryaningsih SH, Drs Suhartini and Surjawati.  She is the third oldest of the seven children.
