João was born on January 27th, 1890.  João's father was Pedro Finger and his mother was Dorothea Ostien.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob (Thiago) Finger and Susanna Margarida Diebel; his maternal grandparents were Pedro Ostien and Maria Anna Bokorny. He had two brothers named Pedro and José.  He was the youngest of the three children.
