Jan was born on December 26th, 1877.  Jan's father was Jan Siman and his mother was Anna Jerg.  His paternal grandparents were George Siman and Maria Roshan; his maternal grandparents are Joseph Jerg and Maria Kanos. He had a brother and two sisters, named Joseph, Maria and Julianna.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
