James was born in 1869 in Salford, Lancashire, UK.1   James' father was John MARSLAND and his mother is Jane A BRADSHAW.  His paternal grandfather is James MARSLAND and his paternal grandmother was Charlotte HULME. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John Alfred, Walter, Ellen Ann and Amy.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 45 in 1914.
