  • William Grant  (b. 1670, d. 1736)
    
    Born in Corriemony, Urquhart, Inverness, Scotland; died in King George County, VA; banished from Scotland in 1690 for his support of Prince Edward ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") in the Battle of Culloden; He landed at Norfolk and went to Suffolk; purchased land from Cornelious Edmonds of Sittenbourne Parish, King George County in 1721; on June 6, 1717 he was summoned by the Grand Jury to answer for the charge of being a common swearer having sworn one oath on the first day of May past.  William ignored the summons so, at a court on July 3, 1717, he was fined five shillings or 50 lbs. of tobacco; he was also charged in 1717 for refusing to attend the Church of England; his religious affiliation was Jacobite; his cause of death was murder.  In his 1-24-1727 will of King George County, Virginia, he names three sons, John (to have the plantation bought of Cornelious Edmonds), William and Daniel (to have all my Troopers material).  He leaves his wife 1 shilling, "she being eloped from me and her basely abusing of me."  However, about Christmas, 1732, his second son William was mortally wounded.  On 1-1-1733, he added a codicil "Whereas my son William may not survive me I therefore make over my bequest to him to his two children.
