Alexander was born in 1870 in Newcastle On Tyne St John.  Alexander's father was William Muirhead and his mother was Frances Muirhead. He had three brothers named Peter, William and Robert.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 28 in June 1898 in Northumberland, United Kingdom.
