Catherine was born in 1859 in Mississippi, USA. Catherine's father is Steven Watkins and her mother is Mary Polly. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Watkins and Elizabeth "Betsy" Weeks. She has nine brothers and three sisters, named James, Thomas, John H, Steven, Wiley, Richmond, Jefferson D, Calvin, Jurant, Elizabeth Jane, Mary A and Martha M. She is the fifth youngest of the thirteen children.-
