His paternal grandparents are George Calvin Skelton and Rebecca or Eva Yeager; his maternal grandfather is Thomas Benton Yeager and his maternal grandmother was Eve Melinda Shoffner. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Robert William, Thomas "Tommy", James David "Little Dave", John Calvin "Son", Baby James Calvin, Mary L, Elizabeth "Lizzie", Callie Mae and Nellie Melvin. He was the fifth oldest of the ten children. He had two half-sisters named Minnie and Lilly Pearl. He died at the age of 70 on February 24th, 1970 in Holly Springs, Marshall, Mississippi, USA.-
