Edward's father was Robert DeCalvin Clark and his mother was Martha Tennessee Gammel. His maternal grandparents were Stephen Pate Gammel and N Jane "Jennie" Dean. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Tennessee, Carry N, Vasco, Virgil, Johnny, Steve, Thomas, Hattie Jane, Tollie E, Ethel Marie and Lilian.-
