Richard was born in 1656 in Storiths, Hazlewood, Skipton, Yorkshire, England.  Richard's father was Richard Petty and his mother was Anne Holden.  His paternal grandparents were Anthony Pettyt and Mary Jowett; his maternal grandparents were Richard Holden and Ellen Ideson.  He had a brother and two sisters, named George, Mary and Ellen.  He was the third oldest of the four children.  He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Christopher, George, Mary and Mary (Maria).  He died at the age of 80 on February 1st, 1736 in Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire, England.
